Darby Rangers Pull Off Upset In Regionals

Since the beginning of the season the Darby Rangers were aiming for the regional tournament. At the start of the season our Rangers were doing well. Although for a little while the Rangers hit a rut. That didn’t stop them. They were still able to make it in regionals.

Regionals consists of the top four teams in the region. The Rangers, being the lowest seed and kicking off one of their better players, had little fan support. A lot of people doubted them. The doubt didn’t faze the players or 9th grade head basketball coach, Greg Scott.

“If the boys play the way they’re supposed to play and run plays correctly we should win.” Coach Scott said with full confidence in the Rangers.

It seems that he made the right assumption for the boys because the Darby Ranger Basketball team won the Regional Championship against Alma. The ending score was 53-48. They received a plaque and will soon get a banner to hang in the gym. Also Tylor Perry, an eighth grader, was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Blake Massengale and Jamarri Freeman, both eighth graders, were awarded All Tournament. In the end The Rangers still pulled out, as they would say, that W.
