On Friday, April 22nd, the Darby National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) students went to the NJHS Regional Convention at Ramsey Junior High.

The focus of the conference was on the five pillars of the organization: leadership, citizenship, knowledge, service, and character. They also added a 6th element to discuss – wisdom. There were guest speakers to explore each pillar, including Dr. Benny Gooden, superintendent of Fort Smith Public Schools, and Kevin Settle, the Vice-Mayor of Fort Smith.

While at the convention, students also played games such as egg roulette, dance battle, lip sync battle, flip cup, catch phrase, and battle of the sexes. Benjamin Gray, Darby NJHS president, won the flip cup tournament in a final face-off with the president of Russellville NJHS.

After the convention, the Darby NJHS went to Central Mall for lunch. NJHS finished the day with a meeting in the library to discuss thoughts and plans for the convention at Darby in 2018. Next year Kimmons will be hosting it and then it will be Darby’s turn.
